Ford 1.0 EcoBoost Wet Belt Replacement

The 1.0 EcoBoost's timing belt runs inside the engine, immersed in oil. As it wears, it sheds material into the oil system — early replacement is the difference between a straightforward job and a damaged engine.

Which vehicles does this cover?

The 1.0-litre EcoBoost three-cylinder engine has been fitted across Ford's smaller models since around 2012. If your vehicle is listed below, this is very likely the correct service.

Ford Fiesta1.0 EcoBoost
Ford Focus1.0 EcoBoost
Ford Puma1.0 EcoBoost
Ford EcoSport / B-Max1.0 EcoBoost

Why the wet belt matters

Unlike a conventional timing belt sitting at the front of the engine, the 1.0 EcoBoost's belt runs inside the timing cover, immersed in engine oil. This keeps it running quietly, but it also means that as the belt material starts to break down, fragments can circulate through the oil system, block the oil pump pickup and starve the engine of lubrication — leading to serious, expensive damage.

Because failure can happen with very little warning, we generally recommend replacing the belt preventatively as part of routine maintenance, rather than waiting for symptoms to appear.

Signs of a failing wet belt

  • A rattling or whining noise from the front of the engine
  • Metallic or rubber particles visible in the oil on a service check
  • Low oil pressure warnings
  • In many cases, no warning at all before failure — which is why preventative replacement matters

Our replacement process

  1. Confirmation of your exact engine and belt specification from your registration.
  2. Fixed quote confirmed before any work begins.
  3. Wet belt, tensioner and associated seals replaced with correctly specified components.
  4. Full oil system flush to remove any belt debris already in circulation.
  5. Oil and filter change with the correct specification oil.
  6. Road test and final quality check before collection.

Frequently asked questions

How much does 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt replacement cost?
From £749.17 + VAT (£899.00 inc. VAT) fixed price, covering the wet belt kit, labour, full oil system flush and a 12-month parts & labour warranty. If your vehicle has a non-standard specification we'll confirm before you book.
Do I need to wait for symptoms before replacing it?
We'd recommend against it. Wet belt failure often happens with little or no warning, and the resulting engine damage is far more expensive than a preventative replacement. If your vehicle is due, it's worth booking in before it becomes an emergency.
