Renault Master III, Vauxhall Movano B & Nissan NV400 2.3 dCi Timing Chain Replacement

Which vehicles does this cover?

The Renault 2.3 dCi (M9T engine) is used in Renault Master III (2010–present), Vauxhall/Opel Movano B (same generation, badge-engineered from Master III) and Nissan NV400 (same platform, badge-engineered from Master III). That's it — these three are the same van built on the same large-van platform, just rebadged three ways, and this is very likely the correct repair if your van is one of them.

This is a different engine and platform to the smaller Renault Trafic III (and its own siblings, the Vauxhall Vivaro, Nissan NV300 and Fiat/Vauxhall Talento), which use a 1.6 or 2.0 dCi engine instead — not the 2.3 dCi covered here.

Signs your 2.3 dCi timing chain needs attention

• A rattling noise from the front of the engine, particularly noticeable on cold start-up
• Engine management light with camshaft/crankshaft timing correlation fault codes
• Rough running, hesitation or reduced power — costly downtime for a working van
• In advanced cases, difficulty starting or the engine failing to start

3. Primary timing chain, guides and tensioner replaced with correctly specified components.
4. Secondary/balancer chain and guides inspected and replaced where required.
5. Sprockets/gears inspected and replaced where required following inspection.
6. Full timing verification to confirm correct cam/crank alignment.
7. Oil, filter and coolant as required, plus a full diagnostic scan.
8. Road test and final quality check before collection.
