Which vehicles does this cover?
The 2.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine is used across the Jaguar and Land Rover range from roughly 2015 onwards. If your vehicle is listed below and fitted with the 2.0 Ingenium petrol engine, this is very likely the correct repair. Driving the diesel Ingenium instead? See our Ingenium Diesel page →

Signs your Ingenium timing chain needs attention
The Ingenium timing chain sits at the front of the engine and is tensioned hydraulically. As the tensioner and guides wear, the symptoms below tend to appear gradually rather than all at once — which is why a lot of these vehicles get driven for weeks with a developing fault before anyone acts on it.
- A rattling or ticking noise from the front of the engine, most noticeable on cold start-up
- Engine management light with a timing-related fault code (commonly P0016, P0017 or camshaft/crankshaft correlation codes)
- Rough idle, hesitation or a noticeable loss of power
- In advanced cases, the engine fails to start at all
What causes Ingenium timing chain failure?
The most common underlying cause is wear in the hydraulic chain tensioner, which allows the chain to develop slack over time. Reduced oil quality, extended service intervals and low-mileage stop-start use can all contribute to earlier wear.
Left unaddressed, the chain can jump timing or, in the worst cases, break — at which point the repair moves from a timing chain replacement to a full engine rebuild. This is the main reason we recommend acting on symptoms early rather than waiting.
Our replacement process
- Initial diagnostic check to confirm the timing chain is the cause, including a review of any stored fault codes and an assessment of chain wear.
- Fixed price confirmed before any work begins — no surprises once the vehicle is booked in.
- Timing chain, guides and associated seals replaced using correctly specified components — tensioner and VVT solenoid replaced if required, based on their condition.
- Full timing verification to confirm correct cam/crank alignment before the engine is started.
- Oil and filter change, plus a check for any related contributing issues.
- Road test and final quality check before the vehicle is signed off for collection.
What's Included
See exactly what's included in this repair
Every Ingenium timing chain replacement uses a febi bilstein timing chain kit — chain, guides and sprocket bolts — correctly specified for your exact engine variant, not a generic aftermarket substitute. The tensioner and VVT solenoid are inspected as part of the job and only replaced if required, rather than swapped as standard regardless of condition.
- febi bilstein timing chain, guides & sprocket bolts
- Tensioner & VVT solenoid (if required)
- New seals and gaskets disturbed during the repair
- Correct specification oil and filter
- Full timing verification and road test
- 12-month parts & labour warranty
- Payment Assist, cash, personal debit card or bank transfer accepted
