This is a distinct job from our VAG 2.0 TSI/TFSI petrol timing chain service — both the 1.6 TDI and 2.0 TDI diesel engines use a conventional external timing belt, not a chain, and need replacing on a mileage/age interval before they fail. Suitable for many 2008–2021 1.6 & 2.0 TDI models. Registration/VIN confirmation required before booking, as the price and parts can vary by exact engine code.

Signs your 1.6 or 2.0 TDI timing belt needs attention

• A squeaking or ticking noise from the front of the engine
• Coolant loss or visible weeping from the water pump area
• You're not sure when the belt was last replaced, or it's approaching its mileage/age interval
• In the worst case, sudden failure with no prior warning — a snapped belt on this engine causes serious internal damage

Why we replace the water pump at the same time

The water pump on these engines is driven by the same timing belt system and sits in a position that's only accessible once the belt is off. Replacing it at the same time avoids paying for the labour twice, and removes a second common failure point from the equation — a much more sensible approach than replacing the belt alone and hoping the pump holds out.
